4 Access Panel Problems Architects Dislike and How BAUCO Solves Them
For nearly 30 years, BAUCO has manufactured access panels delivering the highest quality in design, manufacturing and service in the industry. More than half of our orders come from repeat customers who trust our quality and service. We combine rigorous quality control and thoughtful design so you can confidently specify our access panels.
This blog highlights four problems architects face and how BAUCO solves each one.
- Poor design and visible hardware
Solution: Virtually invisible finish
Architects want clean uninterrupted surfaces. Hardware should not draw attention. BAUCO offers several access panel models that finish flush and blend into the surrounding surface so they maintain the design intent of the space. The BAUCO Plus II is one example. It finishes flush with the surface, uses concealed hardware, and has a narrow 1/16” perimeter gap. A continuous finish of paint, wallpaper, tile, or millwork can be applied on site to match.
“They blend in with the surrounding drywall, or can be finished to suit the surroundings. It’s a nice, neat finish.”
Colin Bellingham, Westrose Interiors

- Panels that are incompatible with the design vision
Solution: Fully customizable options
More than half of the 60,000 access panels and air return grilles we built last year were customized. We can customize size, shape, inlay material, latch options or rework the access panel design for your non-standard application. The virtually invisible finish, robust materials, sound resistance with gypsum board and perimeter seal together with smooth, reliable function remain the same.
If you need an L-shaped panel or other speciality shapes or different latch options, we can build it.
“Very happy to have found this manufacturer and product line, our go to for access panels. Strong manufacturer support, easy customization, and builders won’t complain.”

BAUCO can build unique shapes
- Inconsistent performance from unit to unit
Solution: Precision built and tested
Performance should never vary between models or manufacturing runs. BAUCO access panels are engineered for consistency and reliability. Our access panels are built with robust 6063-T6 aluminum extrusions and 14 gauge galvanized steel components made with post-industrial recycled content. We use mold/moisture-resistant drywall inlays and test touch latches for durability.
Our automated access panel tester cycles new access panel designs hundreds of times to ensure smooth operation and long-term performance.
“The access panels work very well and we have had great success. We have asked a number of designers to start specifying your product.”
Daryl Goudie, Soundtrex Interiors Ltd., Calgary

- Lack of technical and design support
Solution: Expert guidance from our technical team
At BAUCO, we’ve got your back. Whether you have a challenging application or you are looking to simply meet project requirements, you are in knowledgeable hands when you contact BAUCO. You may need personal assistance from our technical team to design and refine a solution.
