Beyond the Square: Custom Access Panel Solutions
When you think of access panels, a basic square or rectangle probably comes to mind. But in modern architecture and design, creativity rarely fits into a box. At BAUCO, we understand that access panel solutions shouldn’t disrupt your vision—they should complement it.
Featuring the BAUCO Rondo
One of our most unique offerings is the BAUCO Rondo, a circular access panel – designed for projects that call for a clean, minimalist finish and fit with curvilinear design features.
The Rondo features:
- A minimal 1/16″ reveal for a seamless look.
- Hidden hardware for clean lines and easy access.
- Integrates smoothly into drywall wall and ceiling finishes and accepts paint, tile, or wallpaper to match the space.
The BAUCO Rondo was the right solution for the UBC Arts Student Centre located in Vancouver, British Columbia. It is available in 12”, 16” and 24” diameters with multiple latch options.

Nestled in amongst UBC’s busy East Mall area, the 11,700 square foot, three story tall building stands out with it unique cylindrical shape. The building serves as the hub for the university’s Visual Arts Department. With a circular motif in mind, the design team at Leckie Studio Architecture + Design was very delighted to be introduced to the BAUCO rondo. All three standard sizes of rondo were used throughout the building, effortlessly blending into the design.

Beyond the Circle
But we don’t stop at circles.
At BAUCO, we often hear from architects and designers about manufacturing custom shapes that suit the needs of unique spaces. Some of the custom options we’ve provided include:
- Triangles for angular wall and ceiling junctions
- Trapezoids to accommodate sloped or irregular surfaces
- Access panels for T-bar ceiling grids, ensuring accessibility in commercial applications.
- Oversized access panels designed and reinforced for unique mechanical access.
- Custom configurations for seamless integration with wood planks, veneer panels, tile, stone or other specialty finish materials.

While these shapes capture the imagination, most architects, designers and customers require more common adjustments that make a big impact without requiring extensive redesign. Everyday customization options including custom sizes, multiple locking and latch configurations and various options for inlay materials to support finishes like plaster, tile wallpaper, wood and more.
Why Custom Access Panels Matter
In highly designed spaces—residences, galleries, hotels, or heritage buildings for example—a non-standard shape of access panel may be required. That’s why we offer custom solutions that meet both technical and aesthetic requirements.
No matter how complex the design, our team works closely with clients to bring the right custom access panel solutions to life.
