FRONT-MOUNT INSTALLATION

Benefits

Virtually Invisible

Concealed hardware, flush finish and minimal perimeter gap ensure an elegant and virtually invisible finish. In addition to the clean standard drywall finish, thinner surface treatments such as wallpaper or wood veneer can be applied across surface for a continuous finish.

Fully Customizable

Custom sizes, custom inlays, and custom hardware possible with the BAUCO XL. Custom sizes starting from 24″ x 36″ up to 22 sq. ft. per leaf. Large openings to 44 sq. ft. with double-leaf configuration. The door leaves can be fully removed for unobstructed access.

Acoustic Integrity

The airtight gasket and the mass of the drywall inlay combine to deliver superior sound transmission resistance. Installation of the BAUCO XL in a typical assembly does not significantly reduce acoustic properties. Third party testing is available.

Air Tight

Equipped with a perimeter gasket for an airtight seal, the BAUCO XL is ideal for plenum access, clinical environments and applications with sound transmission concerns. Third party testing is available.

Accepts Facing Material

The virtual-pivot-point fixed hinge allows for some buildup (1/8″) of facing material on the door leaf such as wallpaper or other thin veneer. This continuity of material from the surrounding surfaces across the access panel allows the access panel to blend seamlessly.

Large Openings

The robust components provide dependable access to large equipment and systems while maintaining an elegant finish. Extra large openings utilize a double door configuration with crossbar free access.

With front-mount models, the drywall is installed up to the edge of the rough opening.

Cut opening (B) is the opening in the drywall. Rough opening (C) is the distance between framing members that provide the structural opening for the access panel.

Both B and C =X or Y + 1-1/4”.

Finishing Options

In addition to various common finishing options and typical substrates, BAUCO works with design and construction professionals to develop custom solutions that allow our access panels to blend into your design and integrate with your unique application. Contact us to discuss your project.

From the Factory Standard

For typical drywall finishing, the standard BAUCO XL is supplied with a moisture and mold resistant drywall inlay. Once finished, the access panel blends seamlessly into the surrounding drywall wall or ceiling.

BAUCO paint-ready Option

With this time saving option, you no longer need to finish the door leaves of BAUCO plus II, BAUCO XL, and BAUCO rondo access panels. BAUCO paint-ready finished panels ship to you with a highly durable, factory-primed drywall door leaf. Skilled trades need only to install and finish the access panel outer frame and then simply insert the BAUCO paint-ready leaf right before painting.

Possible Treatments – By Others

Wallpaper

Wallpaper can be applied directly to the surface of the access panel door leaf, allowing the access panel to blend in with the wall or ceiling finish. For this treatment, it is recommended that the standard access panel be finished and coated to prepare for application.

Wood Veneer

As with all veneer finish treatments, wood veneer continues from the surrounding wall or ceiling across the face of the access panel. The standard BAUCO plus II access panel with the drywall inlay can be prepared on site for application of various veneers.

FAQ

No it is not. In most applications this type of access panel is installed in a gypsum board layer that does not contribute to the rating of the assembly. Please confirm that in your case a rated access door is required.

The BAUCO® XL can be made as large as 22 square feet per door leaf. For larger openings we will add another door leaf for more access.

With the front-mounted frame, the integrated finishing bead determines where the door is seated on the drywall boarding of the wall. The thickness of the gypsum board does not matter. The installer will have to use fasteners that are long enough to extend through the bead and any boarding into the stud surrounding the rough opening.

Yes, the BAUCO® XL is primarily designed for large openings in walls. It can be used in ceilings, but in many cases the BAUCO® plus II model is better suited for ceilings.

Yes, any treatments that you would normally apply to a wall made of gypsum board no thicker than 1/8″. Normally that is finishing compound and paint. But the BAUCO® plus II can receive treatments of tile, wall coverings, tongue and groove wood, fabrics, stucco plaster, etc. For the hinge to function and the door leaf to remain removable from the frame, the cladding can be no thicker than 1/8”.
